Why You Might Be Aging Faster Than You Think: The Truth About Inflammaging
Sep 10, 2025Have you ever noticed how some people look younger—or older—than their actual age? They may be experiencing something called inflammaging.
Inflammaging is the process of accelerated aging caused by chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. Instead of helping us heal, this constant inflammation silently wears us down from the inside out, making us look and feel older than we really are.
The Difference Between Healthy Inflammation & Chronic Inflammation
Inflammation isn’t always the enemy. In fact, when you catch a cold, fight a virus, or even scrape your knee, your body’s inflammatory response is what saves you. White blood cells rush to the rescue—fighting off pathogens, stopping bleeding, and repairing tissues.
That’s good inflammation. It’s short-term and purposeful.
But chronic inflammation is different. It happens when your immune system is always on alert, constantly activated as if you’re under attack 24/7. Over time, this low-grade inflammation accelerates aging, damages cells, and contributes to nearly every major disease—from autoimmune conditions and thyroid disorders to cardiovascular disease and even cognitive decline.
Why Is Your Immune System Always on Overdrive?
It’s easy to assume that autoimmune disease means your immune system is out of control, but the truth is—it’s not a mistake of nature. Your body is protecting itself against something it perceives as dangerous.
The real question is: What’s triggering this response in the first place?
As an Integrative Health Practitioner, I dig deep into these root causes. For example:
-
Could toxins in your environment be causing your migraines?
-
Could eating gluten trigger Hashimoto’s, ADHD, or even multiple sclerosis?
-
Could an undiagnosed parasite be fueling your rheumatoid arthritis flare-ups?
